In this recorded Special Learning Journal Club, Dr. Kimberly B Marshall reviews emotional word ratings from 68 parents who had experience with behavior analysis services. She explains how 40 selected terms were rated and compares overlapping terms with general-public norms. Maria Nicolaou hosts the discussion.

Marshall also discusses a separate 17-parent study comparing high- and low-jargon written instructions for discrete trial teaching (DTT). She reports a larger increase in correctly implemented steps for the low-jargon group during role-play with the experimenter.

Her discussion of soft skills and code switching leads into an example that replaces latency with the time between a request to close an iPad and the child closing it. She also describes audience-specific stories and simple visuals for explaining behavioral principles.
