Decreasing Problem Behavior with an FBA Part 1: How to Begin

This 120-minute webinar identifies the challenging behaviors children with autism may exhibit — and how to begin decreasing them with a functional behavior assessment. Based upon the literature review and successful practice in home, clinical, and school settings, we review how to initiate and conduct a functional behavior assessment including all key components (indirect assessments, descriptive assessments, and functional analysis).

Learners not only gain information on the tools used to conduct the various assessments — they also become competent in implementation through demonstration and video coding. The audience gains knowledge in identifying the reinforcing variables that maintain challenging behaviors and how to successfully implement neutral redirection. This is the first part of a 2-part series.

Outcomes:

1. Identify the need for a behavior reduction plan and construct a behavioral definition.
2. Complete a functional behavioral assessment (indirect and direct assessment and functional analysis).
3. Identify the various reinforcing variables that maintain challenging behavior and how to successfully implement neutral redirection.
